Congrats to those taking a big step forward on their paddling journey by doing their first time trial last weekend. Also to the experienced paddlers setting themselves a benchmark for the season ahead and to the Cook Is Squad for which this was their final selection trial.

Happy and you know it?
As with all trials, some people will be happy with them and some won’t. If you’ve been training hard over the off-season and you’re not seeing the improvement it’s both frustrating and not always easy to work out what’s going wrong.

On the flip side if you are making good improvements then sharing some ideas around the kinds of changes you’ve made to achieve them can be very insightful for both coaches and other paddlers.

So if you’re looking for feedback or have some improvement ideas to share then please see any of the DB, OC or SC coaches.

How are the results used?
At this stage dragon boaters are encouraged to regularly do the OC1 trials as a physical challenge and to benchmark fitness. They are not used to select race crews.

As well as a fun and challenging way to benchmark improvement, for OC they will be used to select crews for local regattas in conjunction with the selection criteria at On The Water > Crew Selection. Individual technique points collected during the trials will be posted in the Glebe Shed and will be used in upcoming training sessions.

What’s next?
Dates for future are trials will be set at the next Coaches Meeting but the expectation is there will be 2 or 3 more throughout the season for you to continue to benchmark your improvements.

Thanks!
Many thanks to Annett and Dean for coordinating the trials, to all those that helped transport the canoes, to Linda for compiling the results and to the PD Coaches and OC Coaching Team for taking the time in providing technique feedback.
