It’s Gold, Silver & Bronze to PDs
A spectacular setting and perfect downwind conditions saw the tri-colour of bling for PDs at the weekend’s State OC1 titles! Annett led the charge claiming the Master Women’s gold in the downwind long course race. Not only that, at every race this season Annett has closed the gap to the open women’s gold medallist. Look out 2009!
Following a great surfing leg, Lisa battled hard into a tough headwind to take silver in the Master Women’s short course. In only her first season of OC1 paddling Lisa has continually taken herself beyond her comfort zone. In doing so she has made some huge steps forward and is setting herself up for some great ocean paddling in the future.
After knocking over one of her all-time paddling goals by completing the 20 Beaches, Linda topped off a great OC1 season by claiming bronze in the Open Women’s long course.
Compared to his last Hoe Horo race, Todd looked like a new man crossing the line in 7th in the open long course. All the mileage he’s doing has started to pay off as he builds towards Hamo in ’09.
For me all I can say is what an honour, what a privilege, what a great time! I was stoked with my 4th in the opens but to spend two hours on a Saturday afternoon surfing from one run to the next, taking in a fantastic piece of coastline and dodging the odd dolphin is nothing short of sensational. For years this has been the kind of racing we’ve been hoping for. Full marks to the organisers and all those that made such an event happen.
The 2008 season is drawing to a close but for anyone considering building their skills and pushing their comfort zone to take on these kinds of races in 2009 you will not be disappointed!
