Race Report by Julia – DB Coach

We had a pretty successful weekend, with our main aim being to (not win races) but to cement our technique changes at speed and in a pressured racing environment. And we certainly acheived that… long strokes, less negative angle at the back of the stroke, a great big catch and strong leg drive to drive us home.

Womens Crew – Good solid 1st heat, an amazing 2nd heat (where we won by well over a boat length and raced one of lifes ultimate races – it will go down in PD racing history). We didn’t quite have the legs (well more like the fitness) to pull it off in the final but finished with a very credible 5th place (3 tenths of a second behind first place) in a very close final. And the girls gained an insight into the heights they can achieve.
Mixed Crew – Again another incredibly close hard fought final and some great racing from all crews including our own. A tidy 3rd place, about one tenth of a second off 1st place. And they also won their first heat by heaps, after being crashed into by another team – nice work from Anne and Susie (fending the dragons head away with the speed and strength of an All Black Winger :o)
Mens Crew – Good racing, superb starts (i was well impressed!) and a good result making it into the A final with quite a few new girls racing in the crew. And up against some pretty big strong blokey teams from the other clubs.
New Paddlers – Congratulations to Kristin, Lisa and Sally who raced their first races in the Girls and Opens Crew and to Graham who was racing for the first time in the Opens Crew. Awesome work guys and girls, it is our pleasure to have new paddlers racing with us and doing so incredibly well.
Thanks – to Nicola, Charlotte, Di, Sarah, Nhu, Doug and Jo for the food, accommodation, organsation and equipment transport – without the support of wonderful people like these we would not be able to enjoy regattas and weekends away as much – Thanks Guys!!
Thanks from DBNSW – Mel also passed on much thanks to Doug and Jo from PD’s who helped unload the boats and all the race equipment on Sat night back at Bank St – hugely appreciated. And its great to see our club members do kind things for others and the sport in general.
Next stop – Chinese New Year – Bring it on!! Dont miss out, sign up now!
