Top Exit Checklist
Elbow to torso
– getting the blade out early ensures the power is delivered at the front of the stroke and not at the less efficent back of the stroke

Fast – you’ve delivered the power now get the blade out fast to let the canoe run

Clean – minimal water coming of the blade indicates your exit is fast and you haven’t pulled your elbow past your torso.

Check out the John Puakea/Danny Ching Clinic for more insights on the exit.

Many thanks to Kath for helping out to collect the footage.

Where From/Where To – Those not aiming for top crews
How the PD OC State Title Training Plan applies to those not aiming for top crews was discussed and questions answered. The Road to Hamo was also reviewed.

Where From/Where To – Those aiming for top crews
After going through the PD OC State Title Training Plan our target total sessions remain at 4-5 per week. Click here for full details of updated training targets and season goals.

Before Christmas many were doing 3-4 paddling sessions per week. Through Jan many have been doing 5-6 week and are expecting to do 5-6 per week into Feb. Paddlers need to be conscious that the increase in sessions doesn’t lead to overtraining, especially if many of the sessions involve intensity work (ie. L3 or above).

For those doing DB and OC this increase in volume will impact your ability to wwwelop speed in the DB and you should drop back to the volume of training you were doing prior to Christmas.
